One of the primary goals of Skyraider Aviation is to bring the thrill and excitement of general aviation to the masses. We can do this through the use of our Light Sport Aircraft. Here's how:
- Simple, but well-equipped instrument panel is easy to figure out, and is less intimidating to the new student

- Panel mounted Garmin moving-map GPS to ensure you never get lost
- Excellent flight characteristics make it easy to quickly master basic flying maneuvers
- The Rotax 912 engine is easy to start, and doesn't require the coddling of many general aviation engines.
- Sport Pilot license requires only 20 hours of flight training, compared to 40 hours for the license required to operate other categories of general aviation aircraft.
- All aircraft kept in heated hangar. Makes preflight inspection more comfortable. Eliminates the need for time-consuming airplane preheating and snow/ice removal.
Our location at Erie Municipal Airport (just North of Denver) also lends itself to sport pilot training. Unlike the other Denver metro area airports where you have to master air traffic control procedures, compete with fast moving business jets, and deal with airspace congestion, Erie offers a quiet, relaxed, and simple flying environment. By training at Erie, you can focus on your flying skills, and worry about the more complex stuff later.
Meet our Instructors
Skyraider Aviation's flight instructors are not employees... they're fellow club members with a passion for teaching. Our instructors offer a varied array of experiences. Follow this link to find out more, and to help choose the instructor who's right for you.
How much will it cost?
Training costs will vary depending on the individual student's level of committment and skill. The largest variable that affects the final cost is the number of flight hours required to earn the Sport Pilot certificate. Some may reach the necessary competence level at the FAA minimum of 20 hours, while others may take longer. The best way to minimize total flight hours is to stay focused and to fly frequently.
The following table outlines the expected costs.

TSA Security Note:
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requires new students to prove their US citizenship before commencing flight training. In general this requirement can be met with one of the following:
- Valid, unexpired U.S. passport.
- Original birth certificate, and government-issued picture ID (drivers license).
If you are not a citizen, or cannot produce the above documents, then it gets more complicated (but not impossible). You can get more information here.
